Dear Greenfield Union School District Families,
We are reaching out to provide clarity and reassurance following recent news coverage regarding an incident that took place in our community.
A Greenfield resident was detained on Thursday morning by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while exiting his home. Local officials, including Greenfield’s Police Chief, confirmed that this action occurred near Los Padres Court. At this time, limited information has been made publicly available about the individual involved.
We want to assure you that this incident did not occur on school grounds, and ICE has not contacted any of our schools. Please know that the Greenfield Union School District remains firmly committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students and families, regardless of immigration status.
We want to emphasize:
Our schools remain safe spaces for students.
We do not collect or share immigration status information.
Our priority is always the well-being and education of your children.
If your family is in need of emotional support or has concerns, our school counselors and community liaisons are available to assist. We also encourage families to stay connected with trusted community organizations for additional resources.
We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as appropriate. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your school principal or the district office.
Thank you for being a part of our Greenfield community and for the trust you place in us each day.
Warm regards,
Laura Cortez
Interim Superintendent
Greenfield Union School District
