Dear Greenfield Families,
This afternoon, a Kindergarten student was struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of Elm and Heidi Streets. The incident was promptly reported, and emergency services arrived quickly. Fortunately, the student does not appear to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
The Greenfield Union School District is collaborating with the Safe Routes to School initiative to promote pedestrian safety among our students. We encourage everyone to help reinforce this important message by emphasizing the following key points to students:
Always look both ways before crossing the street and make eye contact with drivers so you know they see you.
Stay alert and avoid distractions like phones, headphones, or playing games when you are near streets or parking lots.
Use crosswalks and sidewalks whenever possible, and if there isn't a sidewalk, walk facing traffic so you can see cars coming.
Make sure drivers can see you, especially in the early morning or evening-wear bright colors or reflective gear when walking or biking.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe.
