  • California Rural Legal Assistance

    California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) in Salinas, CA, provides free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Monterey County. 

    Services Offered:

    • Employment Law: assistance with employment discrimination, harassment, wage claims, and retaliation
    • Housing Law: help with eviction notices, rent increases, habitability, retaliation, and discrimination
    • Education Law: support with discipline, language access, and access to services
    • Public Benefits: assistance with CalFresh, General Assistance, Social Security, and TANF
    • Immigration Services: limited to U and T Visas, and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) petitions

    Eligibility:

    • Income must be less than 125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines (up to 200% in special situations)
    • U.S. citizen or legal immigrant

    CRLA serves a diverse community, including farmworkers, individuals with disabilities, immigrant populations, and LGBTQ+ individuals

  • Monterey County Lawyer Referral Service

    The Monterey County Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service connects you with pre-screened, local attorneys who specialize in areas like business law, civil litigation, and family law. To get a referral, you'll pay a non-refundable $50 administrative fee, which includes a 30-minute consultation .

    Eligibility and Requirements:

    • Open to anyone seeking legal assistance
    • Attorneys must be licensed, insured, and specialize in specific practice areas
    • Referrals are made on a rotating basis, considering language needs and geographic location
